BELLVILLE (July 9, 2025) — A popular eatery and shopping destination has a fresh new look.
Der Dutchman and Carlisle Gifts commemorated the end of a six-month building makeover on Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, special discounts, and prize giveaways. General Manager Michael Thoma enjoyed showing off the newly improved restaurant.
“Der Dutchman has been a part of this community for over 30 years. The designers did a fantastic job creating a space that feels fresh and modern while still preserving the warmth, charm, and welcoming atmosphere our guests have always loved.”
The renovated building features new furnishings, paint, and flooring throughout, banquet rooms equipped with state-of-the-art AV technology, and an expanded bakery retail area, among other improvements.
“Guests will still find all the sweets and treats they’ve loved over the years—fresh-baked pies, cookies, donuts, breads, and Amish canned goods—but the presentation has been completely refreshed,” said Thoma. “One of the most exciting additions is a new café area featuring an espresso machine.”
Der Dutchman and Carlisle Gifts are part of Walnut Creek, Ohio-based Dutchman Hospitality Group, which operates restaurants, shops, and inns across six locations in Ohio, Indiana, and Florida.
Jennifer Wagner with the Richland County Chamber of Commerce led Tuesday’s ceremony and thanked company leaders for
their re-investment in the Clear Fork Valley.
“For many, many years, Der Dutchman has been a place to not only enjoy a great meal: It has been a staple in our community and a place for friends and family to come together and make some great memories. With these beautiful enhancements, this beautiful remodel inside, it is more than just a place to gather. It’s a place now to receive great service and excellence to our community and beyond,” she said. “We are just thrilled to celebrate this new chapter with [you], and we are so grateful for the impact that you continue to make and the presence you make in our community.”
Other esteemed guests included Bellville Mayor Teri Brenkus and all the Richland County commissioners. State Senator Mark Romanchuk was unable to attend but provided a signed proclamation congratulating DHG on the achievement.
Der Dutchman and Carlisle Gifts are located at 720 State Route 97 West.
