Essenhaus debuts revamped miniature golf course and ice cream shop

Middlebury, Ind. — The miniature golf course at Essenhaus has some fun new features.

All 18 holes recently underwent a major facelift, getting brand-new carpeting and custom-made props inspired by the campus and the surrounding Amish community. Additions include a quilt garden made from golf balls, a miniature replica of the Middlebury water tower, and a tiny version of the covered bridge at Essenhaus, made from its original wooden siding and shingles.

“Some of the holes are now a little more challenging, but the entire course looks fantastic,” said Essenhaus Events Coordinator Angela Miller, who led the effort from start to finish. “We’re excited to share this fresh, updated course with everyone. It’s designed to be fun for both kids and adults alike!”

The old, farm-themed mini-golf building got a makeover, as well, transforming into a vibrant, 1950s-style ice cream shop offering refreshing drinks, hand-dipped ice cream, milkshakes, smoothies and an assortment of candy.

“We have definitely seen an increase in traffic both at the mini golf and the ice cream shop,” said Miller. “Guests are happy with the updates.”

Other project contributors included Essenhaus team members Amber Illingworth, Hope Davis, Jennifer Crabtree, Bryce Miller, Taryn Varner, Dustin Miller, Marci Hoffman, Jill Miller, and Lloyd Yoder.

“Lloyd built the incredible buildings and props you see throughout the course, while our dedicated grounds crew played a crucial role in cleaning up the site and placing and securing all of the props,” said Miller. “A special thanks goes to the Bob and Sue Miller family for pitching in to help prepare the course for new carpet and for being our test players, trying out the course and props before opening to ensure everything worked perfectly.”

The new and improved miniature golf course at Essenhaus is open on weekdays from 11 a.m. until 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. For prices and additional information, visit essenhaus.com/activities.
