Tech Director/Production Manager
Full-time Position – Ohio Star Theater
Summary:
The Ohio Star Theater is excited to expand its talented technical team! We are currently seeking full-time staff to contribute to the design and construction of sets, as well as the design of sound and lighting for our productions.
Located in the heart of scenic Sugarcreek, Ohio – the gateway to Amish Country – Ohio Star Theater is a 500-seat professional, non-equity theater. We specialize in producing original musicals inspired by the Bible, offering a unique blend of artistry, faith, and storytelling to our audiences.
Ohio Star Theater is seeking a highly organized and skilled Technical Director / Production Manager to oversee all technical and logistical aspects of our theatrical productions. This hybrid role ensures that each production runs smoothly, safely, on time, and within budget — from pre-production planning through closing night and strike. The ideal candidate has a strong
background in theater production, technical design, and team leadership, with the ability to balance hands-on technical

Base Salary Range: $55,000 – $65,000
Production Management:
•Develop and maintain season production calendars, budgets, and resource plans in collaboration with artistic and administrative teams.
•Serve as primary liaison between directors, designers, stage management, and production staff to coordinate all production elements.
•Lead and facilitate production meetings and technical rehearsals.
•Oversee hiring, scheduling, and coordination of all production crews and technical personnel.
•Ensure productions stay on schedule and within budget, providing regular updates to senior leadership.
•Manage logistics for load-in, tech, performance runs, and strike.
Technical Direction:
•Interpret scenic designs and assess technical requirements, identifying and resolving potential challenges early.
•Create build drawings, materials lists, and schedules for set construction and installation.
•Supervise scenic construction, rigging, and installation of all technical elements (sets, lighting, sound, projections, etc.).
•Ensure safety protocols are followed in all production activities, including shop and stage operations.
•Maintain theater spaces, shop equipment, and inventory of technical supplies.
•Collaborate with designers and other department heads to ensure cohesive and achievable design execution.
Qualifications:
•Demonstrated experience in theater production, with demonstrated leadership and management skill.
•Strong working knowledge of scenic construction, lighting, sound, and rigging systems.
•Demonstrated experience managing production budgets and schedules.
•Proficiency in drafting software (AutoCAD, Vectorworks) and production tools a plus.
•Theatrical Design skills a plus
•Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
•Ability to lead and motivate teams under tight deadlines.
•Commitment to safe working practices and inclusive collaboration.
•Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Production Management, or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
